The village of Béznar (pop. 265) is situated beside the lake in the Lecrín Valley, midway between the city of Granada and the Costa Tropical.
Geographically, Béznar's position is enviable and unequalled, both as a place to stay and relax and as a stepping-off point for all that the province of Granada has to offer visitors. Its strategic location allows easy access to many places of interest, most of which can be reached in a matter of minutes on excellent roads. The famous Lanjaron spa is a ten minute drive away, while the Sierra Nevada ski resort can be reached in half an hour. The beaches of the Costa Tropical are just 20 minutes away, and the ancient city of Granada - home of the Alhambra, the "eighth wonder of the world" - is a 20-minute drive in the opposite direction.
The Lecrin Valley ("Happy Valley", in English) is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Climatically, the area is protected by the Sierra Nevada from the cold winds from the North, and averages 320 days of sunshine per year.
